Runtime: ~5 min · Tone: Conversational, advisor-to-advisor
Screen: Compare tool — drawdown overlay, two lines side by side
This is the moment that wins the meeting. A client sees their current portfolio's worst drawdowns right next to what I'm recommending — and the difference is real money, not a pie chart.
That's Meridian. It's built for advisors who want institutional-grade portfolio work in one place. Let me walk you through how I got to this screen.
Screen: Questionnaire → results
First, I walk through a risk questionnaire on the client's behalf. 15 questions across three dimensions — risk capacity, loss tolerance, and risk need. It's grounded in the CFA Institute framework and aligned with FINRA Rule 2111. Takes about three minutes.
The system reconciles all three dimensions into a single Composite Investment Risk Score. That score drives everything — which model gets recommended, the volatility target, how the report is framed.
Once complete, the score saves directly to a lead record, so this person is already in my CRM before I build them anything.
Point to score: 62, Moderate
Screen: Add Current Portfolios modal — Statement Scanner tab: upload a brokerage statement PDF, AI extracts SPY 40%, EFA 40%, AGG 20%. Screen must show only these three with these weights.
Before I recommend, I need a baseline. Fiduciary standard — you compare against what they already own.
I upload their brokerage statement — the AI reads the PDF, extracts every holding, resolves the tickers, and drops them into the table with allocations. SPY — domestic equity, 40%. EFA — international, 40%. AGG — domestic bonds, 20%. It deduplicates automatically and even picks up fixed index annuities — most platforms just ignore those, which is a gap when half your clients have one. If I don't have a statement handy, I can type tickers, paste a list, upload a CSV, or just speak them — the Voice tab transcribes tickers and weights straight from speech.
Now I've got their current portfolio saved. That's my baseline.
Screen: Portfolio Builder
Now the recommendation. I can start from an iQUANT model portfolio — five risk tiers, pre-built — or build from scratch. And it's not locked to iQUANT models: I can add any stock, ETF, mutual fund, fixed index annuity, or SMA to the universe — even upload a CSV of historical returns for a custom holding. For this client, Moderate.
The optimizer uses mean-variance optimization against the volatility target for that risk profile to find the allocation that maximizes risk-adjusted return. I can set per-ticker min and max allocation bounds — or just type constraints in plain English and the AI assistant translates them into the right settings, which I review and adjust before running. If I don't add specific holdings, it automatically defaults to a universe of eighteen Style Box and Asset Class index ETFs, each with its own editable min and max. It checks realized volatility across 5-year, 10-year, 15-year, and inception windows to make sure the portfolio actually hits the target.
Here's what came back. 7.8% expected return, 8.9% volatility — right in zone. Allocations round to the nearest 5%, which keeps it clean and implementable.

Screen: Compare → Stress Test
And now we're back to that screen from the beginning: current versus proposed, side by side.
Growth overlay, drawdown overlay, annual returns, correlation heatmap, full metric table — Sharpe, max drawdown, VaR. All from historical monthly returns.
Then Stress Test. I run thousands of Monte Carlo simulations on the proposed portfolio and replay its worst historical periods — the actual drawdowns these holdings lived through.
The verdict banner gives me the probability of gain, the median outcome, the worst-case scenarios. That's concrete. That's what moves someone from thinking about it to signing.

Screen: Reports → Investment Proposal rendering. At 4:15, flash the IPS template first page on screen for 2 seconds, then return to the Investment Proposal.
Last step. I select the portfolio and generate an Investment Proposal. Cover page with my firm's branding, recommended allocation, holdings, growth projection, the comparison I just ran — charts embedded, print-ready.
The disclosures block is locked. I can add supplemental language, but I can't delete the mandatory regulatory text. There's also an Investment Policy Statement template if the client's plan requires one.
I hand this to the client as a PDF and it looks like it came from a major institution.

Screen: Dashboard
That's the workflow. Risk score, current holdings, optimized proposal, stress test, branded report — five steps, one platform.
